Snowing as I write this, both here at my Washington home and on the Southern end of the trail. I have a feeling this is not going to start out as the desert hike I expected.
I wonder if I am the only just-about-to-start PCT wanna be who feels woefully under prepared.

No, not at all. Welcome to the club.
one more excuse not to wear crocs!
Two things I hope: I hope your pack is a hell of a lot lighter than the one you carried on the Timberline Trail….and I hope the scenery is be every bit as spectacular. As for the scenery, I think that is a given. Gods speed Joe.
An auspicious start indeed. Can you get some old wooden tennis rackets to strap to your boots for snow-shoes? The guy I know who’s done this starts with 3 5-mile days, then goes to 3 7.5 mile days, then hikes 3 ten mile days. By the end of the second week, he hikes 15 mile days with ease and gradually gets to 20-22.. Go easy on yourself to start.
